Fun was had...
However, there is now dirt everywhere. I cleaned the car, but there is so much dirt in the engine bay and every nook and/or cranny you can imagine. Oh well, Subaru’s gonna Subaru.

I can’t keep mind clean for long, I live by so many dirt roads

The campsite I was going to had it’s main paved road flooded out, so we had to take a 25 mile almost empty, mostly smooth, nicely curvy dirt road. When I wasn’t stuck behind an asshole who wouldn’t pull over to let me pass, it was a wonderful drive, if a bit bumpy.

HOw do you like your STI? I’m starting to get interested in one as a new DD. Part of my mixup is STI over WRX being worth it price wise and whether the ride is too harsh on the STI.

I’m at 4000 miles now, so I’ll give you some pros/cons:
Pros:
Fun factor is off the charts, especially for the practicality it provides.
Much larger back seats and trunk than it’s hot-hatch competitors. So much larger it feels almost midsize rather than compact.
All the stuff you touch as the driver, feels nice
People like this car and view it positively, compared to anything German
It’s old-school in all the best ways: noise, feedback, power-delivery, etc.
Vs the WRX: the STi has adjustable throttle response (very nice to have), DCCD, better transmission, and most importantly, excellent hydraulic steering. For 2015+ the STi still has the EJ, but if you’re shopping older WRX’s, you’ll get that sweet sweet rumble anyway.
Cons:
Ride is really harsh. Definitely harsher than the WRX. If you’re considering one, do a thorough test-drive and bring any passenger that might have to ride with you a lot. The harsh ride is the biggest con, and is the only one that has me thinking about other cars. Track time, autocross, or any good winding road is a good fix for this.
Gas mileage is OK. Lifetime avg is 18.5 mpg for me.
Interior will not age well, but it’s not as bad as auto-journalist reviews make it out to be
In the PNW, it’s very common, if that bothers you
The WRX (2015+) feels like a more modern car. Smoother ride, much smoother engine with much better low-end torque. None of that applies to the older WRX’s, though.

So would you recommend a WRX over the STI if I’m not doing any track time or autocross? It’ll primarily be an around town DD with the occasional road trip but most times I would more then likely use the LS or RX. The biggest reason I think I want the STI is the looks over the WRX but is that really worth a good chunk extra and the harsh ride?

If it’s just for the looks, I don’t think it’s worth it. For an around town DD, I’d go WRX. Most of the stuff on the STi that justifies the higher cost is performance related.

Now the question is if I can get the STI wing on the WRX. If it weren’t for the interior I would be looking more at the last generation because the WRX looks great.

Trunk swaps are easy and common. If you’re lucky you can find someone who will straight trade if not you might pay a hundred bucks or two.
Other than the trunk the other difference is wheels which are a bolt on affair (same bolt pattern), headlights and side view repeaters, which you can get on the Limited WRX and the leather interior also available on the Limited WRX (though sans STI embroidering) If you really want to go whole hog every STI piece will bolt directly on a WRX and you can buy them all at the dealer parts desk if you feel so inclined

Search Subaru forums for trunk-swap threads. Lots of STI owners don’t want their wing because of reasons.
